Dr. Edward A. Barlaan, USM Vice President for Research, Extension and Development, received the DOST-PCAARRD Graduate Alumni Association (DPGAA) 2021 William D. Dar Research & Development Award during the 2021 DPGAA Biennial Convention on November 3-4, 2021 via zoom.

The award appreciates and recognizes Dr. Barlaan’s exceptional leadership and innovative contributions in the field of crop research and development (R&D). These include the advancement of agricultural crop improvement and production in the country in various commodities such as coconut, cacao, banana, mango, rice, corn, milkfish among others. He has led various funded projects on several commodities that generated products, technologies, publications, intellectual property assets and awards for R&D achievements.

Through his efforts and capacity as the Vice President for Research, Development and Extension of the University of Southern Mindanao (USM), he has also led the establishment of the Cacao R&D Center at USM through the DOST Niche Centers in the Regions for Research and Development (NICER) Program.
