To attune the fulfillment of the Philippines Sustainable Development Goals, Innovation, and Futures Thinking, the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) through the Research, Development, and Extension (RDE) Office chose and gathered the deans and directors of USM from instruction and research offices for Futures Thinking and Value Creation activity on January 17 to 18, 2024 at the USM Commercial Building, USM, Kabacan, Cotabato.

Ms. Jalaine Joyce V. Malabanan, the former Chief of the Center for Futures Research at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), discussed the Futures Thinking and Value Creation for Statement and Workshop. She highlighted in her talk the importance of planning the future for the next generation.

Also, Ms. Marife M. Lacaba, the director of Samar Island Center for Adult Education and Technology Learning (SICAETLe) of Samar State University, tackled the Futures Thinking in Higher Education and Maximizing Value Creation.

Workshops took place after each session with the guidance and expertise of Mr. Emmanuel de Guia, the Resident Futurist and the representative of Senator Pia Cayetano as the Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Sustainable Development Goals, Innovation, and Futures Thinking (SDGIFT).

In his welcome remarks, USM President Francisco Gil N. Garcia, the program leader of the USM Futures Thinking Program, expressed his gratitude for the conduct of the activity. “This is a venue where we plan to address the concerns of the future and shape the landscape of tomorrow.” He stressed.

For their impressions, Dr. Ivy Mar Cabornida, a faculty member from the College of Human Ecology and Food Sciences (CHEFS), and Dr. Maricel Dayaday, the dean of the College of Engineering and Information Technology (CEIT), conveyed their gratitude for the workshop ––highlighting their realization of knowing the value and impact of USM in the community.

The said activity was in coordination with Dr. Edward A. Barlaan, the Professor Emeritus of USM, and Dr. Ma. Teodora N. Cabasan, the director of the Research Publication Services Office (RPSO) and the project leader of USM Futures Thinking Program.
