Kabacan, Cotabato – To enhance the communication prowess of the Irrigators Association (IA) officers, the National Irrigation Administration-Kabacan River Irrigation System (NIA-KABRIS) tapped the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) to conduct a Training and Seminar on Communication Skills Development, at NIA-KABRIS, Conference Room, Katidtuan, Kabacan, Cotabato, on May 20, 2025.

Prof. Anamarie B. Uyangurin, MAEd, a faculty from the College of Arts and Social Science – Department of English Language and Literature (CASS-DELL), served as the resource person. She discussed the crafting of effective Resolutions and Letters of Intent.

Five key officers from each IA within the Kabacan RIS attended the training. Also present were Engr. Cristita L. Saban, Acting Assistant Chief of System; Engr. Raffy D. Rosete, Acting Chief of System; and Mr. Suharto M. Hussain, Senior Irrigators Development Officer.

Participating IAs were as follows:

  • Bayaning Magsasaka IA
  • KRISMU Kapagayan IA
  • Liton Kayaga Magatos IA
  • Kilagasan Poblacion and Magatos IA
  • Nagasat A Mannalon IA
  • Narang-ay Ti Amianan IA
  • Mannalon Iti Abangatan IA
  • Lower Malamote – New Pandan IA

In his message, Engr. Raffy D. Rosete emphasized the importance of clear communication for the effective operation of the IAs.

“Accurate communication documents and skills are vital for our IAs to achieve their objectives effectively,” Engr. Rosete underscored.

Senior IDO Hussain outlined the rationale of the training, mentioning that it aims to empower IA officers with the necessary skills for efficient coordination.

“This training equips our officers to better serve their communities through improved communication documents,” Mr. Hussain highlighted.

<name and designation>, one of the participants of the training and seminar, shared the importance of the training to their respective IA.

“Dako gid kini nga tabang sa akon…salamat ko karon na hapon nga naka kuha gid ako sang idea as pag [draft] ug resolutions, kag magamit namon kini sa among IA,” stated.

The key highlight of the event included presentations, an open forum, and a critique session. Participants received constructive feedback on their crafted resolutions, refining their skills in writing well-structured and comprehensive documents.

Through this initiative, USM continues its commitment to strengthening the capacity of extension leaders, ensuring more effective and well-documented training programs across the university.

The USM Extension Services Office (ESO) facilitated this initiative, marking a further step in forging stronger partnerships between academic institutions and national government units for community skills development in Region XII.
