Dr. Cañolas of the University of Southern Mindanao, presented an After-Action Review (AAR) on the Capacity Building component of the USM-FAO partnership in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) held on March 12, 2024 at the SMX Convention Center, SM Lanang. This collaborative effort between the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) aimed to assess the progress and impact of their joint endeavors.

The project component, spanning from January to March 2024, focused on Capacity Building by providing training to farmers’ cooperatives and associations in soil sampling, analysis, and fertilizer management across provinces such as Maguindanao del Sur, Maguindanao del Norte, and Special Geographic Areas.

Prior to the training sessions, a module writing workshop was convened in Kidapawan City from January 15 to 17, 2024. During this workshop, participants, including representatives from FAO, MSU Marawi, and USM, collaborated to develop modules for corn and rice training. These modules, along with flipcharts and PowerPoint presentations, were prepared for distribution and utilization during the upcoming training sessions.

The re-echo training unfolded across 20 municipalities and 73 barangays, attracting a total of 1,226 participants, surpassing the original target of 1,200. Participants comprised 656 from Maguindanao del Sur, 344 from Maguindanao del Norte, and 226 from Special Geographic Areas.

During the training sessions, participants actively engaged in both lecture-demonstration sessions led by resource persons and hands-on activities, including soil sampling and the Soil Test Kit (STK) procedure. Notably, there was a discernible improvement in participants’ post-test scores, indicating the positive impact of the training on their knowledge and skills.

The After Action Review facilitated a comprehensive evaluation of the Capacity Building component of the USM-FAO partnership, offering valuable insights and recommendations for future endeavors.
