USM Establishes Research Center for Human Kinetics, Wellness Studies The University of Southern Mindanao (USM) officially launched the Center for Human Kinetics and Wellness Studies (CHKWS) on August 12, 2026. Dr. Debbie Marie B. Verzosa, Vice President for Research, Development and Extension (VPRDE), joined the members of the USM Research and Development team, College of Human Kinetics dean, faculty members, and students during the launching. Dr. Ruben L. Tagare, Jr., will spearhead the center. It was established through USM Board of Regents Resolution No. 10, Series of 2026. The Center operates under the Office of the VPRDE, serving as a University-wide research platform. The establishment of CHKWS builds on USM’s growing research productivity in Physical Education, Human Kinetics, Sports Science, Health, and Wellness. It seeks to institutionalize research initiatives, strengthen national and international collaborations, develop young researchers, and translate scientific knowledge into meaningful programs for schools, communities, and other stakeholders. The Center will advance research through three initial clusters: Physical Activity and Mental Wellness; Human Movement and Performance Optimization; and Innovations in Physical Education and Pedagogy.
