The University of Southern Mindanao (USM) has been recommended for Certification under the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001:2015 standard following a three-day Audit 2 conducted from April 27 to 29, 2026, at various offices in USM Kabacan, Cotabato.

The external audit team from TÜV Rheinland Philippines, Inc., led by Mr. Guillermo Magadia and composed of Ms. Jogina Mendiola, Ms. Lyn Gerzon, Ms. Philura Hipe, and Mr. Anthony Gaba, identified several best practices, noted opportunities for improvement, and recorded minor nonconformity in their findings. These results support the recommendation for the University’s continued certification under the standards of (ISO) 9001:2015.

The audit covered the University’s key areas, including Provision of Tertiary Education, Research, Development and Extension, as well as support services to assess whether existing systems and processes remain aligned with international quality management standards.

During the closing program, USM President Dr. Jonald L. Pimentel expressed his appreciation to faculty and staff for their collective effort. In his speech, he mentioned, that “As an institution we firmly commit in addressing the problem in a timely and effective manner,”.

President Pimentel also emphasized that while the outcome is encouraging, the University must continue strengthening its systems and improving service delivery.

The recommendation affirms USM’s ongoing commitment to quality service and continuous improvement in meeting the needs of its stakeholders.ISO-related initiatives and processes in the University are overseen by the University Quality Assurance Office (UQAO), headed by its director, Dr. Lawrence Anthony U. Dollente.
