In a recent development on March 6, 2024, the Chemistry Department of CSM (College of Science and Mathematics) has continued its efforts to support livelihood initiatives in the community. This time, their focus turned to the women’s organization in Columbio, aiming to assess their progress in producing VCO (virgin coconut oil) and soap.

The visit was aimed at ensuring that all necessary knowledge and skills for the production process were effectively transferred to the participants. During the activity, participants showcased their actual products, which were then reviewed for potential improvements. Furthermore, a forum was organized, facilitated by Ma’am Marivic Candari and Lauro Dumondon from MENRO (Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office), to address the challenges faced by the participants during production.

As part of the session, the procedure for soap-making was reiterated and demonstrated, catering to both new participants and those seeking a refresher on the process. Looking ahead, a return demonstration is scheduled for March 22, 2024, to evaluate the progress of the participants. This step marks the final phase of capacity building for VCO and soap-making within the community.
