π†πžπ§πžπ«πšπ₯ π’πšπ§π­π¨π¬ 𝐂𝐒𝐭𝐲- The SOCCSKSARGEN Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium (SOXAARRDEC), through its consortium director, Dr. Josephine R. Migalbin, presented updates for the Regional Research Symposium for Farmers and Fisherfolks (RRSFF) on September 20, 2022 during the Focus Group Discussion on Food Basket and Agri-Fishery Competitiveness Research Agenda at Venue 88, Mabuhay Road General Santos City sponsored by the Department of Agriculture – SOCCSKSARGEN Area Development Project Office (DA-ADPO).

Along with Dr. Migalbin are faculty members from the Consortium Member Institutions of SOXAARRDEC who served as resource persons in the discussion of potential researchable areas, namely: Dr. Tamie C. Solpot of the University of Southern Mindanao, Dr. Dexter C. Necor of the South Cotabato State College, and Dr. Paolo M. Tagaloguin of the Mindanao State University -General Santos City.

A discussion on potential researchable areas in agri-fishery sector that was participated by the representatives from the different State Universities and Colleges (SUCs), LGUs, PLGUs and regional government agencies was the highlight of the activity. Concerns and challenges faced by the farmers relating to the regional commodities like cacao, coffee, mango, banana, coconut, and asparagus were given attention. Resolutions and interventions were gathered from the participating representatives and experts to address the rising issues from the stakeholders.

The meeting was spearheaded by Engr. Ginalyn Fe C. Cachuela, the Project Manager of DA – SOCSKSARGEN ADPO and Mr. Raymund K. Salangsang, Chairman of the Task Force Food Basket BOD, Gen. Santos City Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Mr. Angel M. Cervantes, Chairman of the Regional Agriculture and Fishery Council XII expressed his gratitude to all the institutions and agencies present in the FGD in his closing remarks.

Another meeting will be scheduled by SOCCSKSARGEN ADPO for a more focused deliberation for each commodity.
