In response to the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Cotabato Province’s request for expertise, the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) spearheaded a training on briquette production in Midsayap, Cotabato, on October 9, 2026.
The training aimed to enhance the knowledge, practical skills, and appreciation of the members of the Kimagango ARB Farmers Multipurpose Cooperative in converting locally available agricultural waste into briquettes as a potential sustainable livelihood opportunity.
Science Research Specialist II Rezin G. Cabantug of the USM Geographic Information Support System Center led the activity, titled “Technology Transfer Training on Briquette Production from Locally Available Agricultural Waste,” which covered both a theoretical lecture and a practical demonstration. During the lecture session, Mr. Cabantug discussed in detail the raw materials, processing techniques, and equipment required for production. This was followed by an intensive hands-on demonstration aimed at translating theoretical knowledge into practical skills through actual briquette making.
The training concluded with a comprehensive assessment of the produced outputs and a post-test survey to evaluate skill acquisition against the pre-test conducted at the start of the program.
Having successfully equipped 10 members of the Kimagango ARB Farmers Multipurpose Cooperative, the training served as a vital stepping stone toward community-level green enterprise development. This highlighted the university’s dedication toward fostering sustainable livelihoods, environmental stewardship, and community empowerment.
