The University of Southern Mindanao (USM) gathered student researchers from different colleges and USM extension campuses for the 11th Student In-House Review on May 19, 2026, at the Research Hub, USMARDC, USM, Kabacan, Cotabato.
A total of 25 research papers were presented under the categories of Basic Research, Social Science Research, and Applied/Innovation Research.
Serving as evaluators for the Basic Research category were Dr. Naomi G. Tangonan, Dr. Josephine M. Buison, and Dr. Vrenelie D. Flores. Meanwhile, Dr. Norma U. Gomez, Prof. Anna Jean S. Garcia, and Prof. Khadiguia O. Balah evaluated the entries under Social Science Research. For the Applied/Innovation Research category, the evaluators were Dr. Josephine R. Migalbin, Prof. Zygote He M. Sorupia, and Dr. Marilyn P. Calub.
In her opening message, Dr. Debbie Marie B. Verzosa, Vice President for Research, Development, and Extension, emphasized to the student presenters that being chosen to represent their colleges in the university-wide review was already a significant achievement.

She also remarked that research goes beyond completing academic requirements, as the skills developed through the process can help students become more critical and objective in analyzing information and making decisions.
“Each of you can apply the skills you developed through research to minimize biases when drawing conclusions, to use data when formulating recommendations, and to think more critically when analyzing information,” she underscored.
Jonald L. Pimentel, the USM President, sent a message for the students in the activity. He commended them for pursuing research that can contribute meaningfully to communities and society.
“You chose to discover, to question, and to create something that can contribute meaningfully to community and society,” President Pimentel wrote in his message.
“Never lose your passion for learning, discovering, and creating knowledge. The future needs young researchers who are curious, courageous, and committed to making a difference,” he added.

During the closing ceremony, winners for the poster presentation categories were announced, while the final rankings for the paper presentation winners will be revealed during the Gawad Parangal for students on May 21, 2026.
