Adding to its growing list of achievements, the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) secured the 480th spot for the first time in the World University Rankings Innovation (WURI) 2026 Global Top 500 Innovative Universities. The ranking recognizes universities that create strong contributions to industry and society through innovative education, research, and community engagement.

Aside from its overall ranking, USM also placed 25th in Representative Research Project, 73rd in University-based Entrepreneurial Projects, and 99th in University Brand and Reputation. These recognitions came from more than 13,000 innovative programs submitted this year, a huge increase from the 4,866 programs recorded in 2025.

WURI also highlights higher education institutions that continue to introduce effective and practical ways of learning, research, and public service that help improve communities and inspire other universities around the world.

The rankings were based on the criteria of innovativeness, implementability, and impact.
