USM strengthened its commitment to research and development through the partnership, which aims to explore opportunities for establishing a Halal Hub in the Bangsamoro region. Through the collaboration, USM and MTIT will study the agri-fisheries and textile industries in BARMM to determine their potential for Halal certification and access to international markets. The study will also assess the infrastructure, logistics, and operational capacity of the Polloc Freeport as the proposed Halal Hub site.
The partnership will also develop a detailed business plan, recommend policies, and examine the possible social and economic benefits of the project. In addition, MTIT and USM will work together in conducting technical support activities, training programs, and stakeholder consultations to help ensure the successful completion of the feasibility study.
