The University of Southern Mindanao-Extension Services Office (ESO) and Sentro ng Wika at Kultura (SWK), alongside the Kundo E. Pahm Learning Resource Center (KEPLRC), jointly commemorated National Literature Month on April 29, 2026, at the ESO TC Room.

The annual celebration featured “Pasundayag: Isang Multilingwal na Seminar-Workshop sa Pagsulat ng Maikling Kwento at Tula,” gathering students, staff, and faculty writers from different colleges and offices across the university.

To welcome the participants, SWK Director Dr. Radji Macatabon explained the rationale of the seminar-workshop. “Kasabay ng pagdiriwang sa Buwan ng Panitikan, malugod naming sinasalubong ang bawat isa sa isang seminar-workshop na may pamagat na Pasundayag. Layunin nitong makabuo ng mga tula at maikling kwento na ating ilalathala sa tulong ng Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF),” Macatabon stated.

The activity transitioned into a formal lecture session featuring two literary experts who joined the event online. Dr. Lita A. Bacalla from Cebu Normal University discussed “Pagbuo ng Akdang Pampanitikan (Literary Writing), while retired UP Diliman Professor Dr. Ricardo Ma. Duran Nolasco facilitated a discussion on “Paggamit ng Katutubong Wika sa Pagbuo ng Akdang Pampanitikan (The Use of Indigenous Languages in Literary Writing).

Following the lectures, participants were tasked with crafting literary pieces, such as short stories and poems, based on their personal life experiences. These pieces were then evaluated by a pool of experts who also actively participated in the seminar-workshop.

The conclusion of the activity was marked by an evaluation session and an open forum, allowing the participants to receive constructive criticisms that refined their craft and elevated the quality of their creative outputs.

The celebration of National Literature Month was successfully held through a strategic collaboration between USM-ESO, SWK, and KEPLRC. This underscored USM’s commitment to foster collaboration while creating a venue for its stakeholders to showcase and preserve their unique narratives. Through this, the university ensures that the rich tapestry of local voices and indigenous languages remains vibrant for future generations.
