Honoring the Pioneers: USMARDC, PICRI Bring Together Retired Researchers, Personnel
January 29, 2026
The University of Southern Mindanao Agricultural Research and Development Center (USMARDC) and the Philippine Industrial Crops Research Institute (PICRI) jointly celebrated their 50th and 40th anniversaries on January 28, 2025, at the USMARDC Compound.
With the theme “Cultivating Innovations, Growing Resilient Communities,” the celebration featured an exhibit joined by nine university colleges and 14 agricultural supply companies. Participating exhibitors showcased their products and services, all aimed at introducing food innovations, supplies, and technologies to a wider market.
Beyond the exhibit, free veterinary services were offered by the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM). Facilitated by student volunteers, the mission served over 13 beneficiaries who received free vitamin supplementation and vaccinations for their pets. This initiative forms part of a collaboration between CVM and the Extension Services Office (ESO) to bring accessible animal healthcare services closer to the community.
For student Ariene Faye S. Fontanilla, the free service helped her save time and money as a pet owner.
“Sa mga katulad kong pet owners na masyadong busy sa studies, napakalaking tulong po talaga ng free services from CVM together with ESO. Instead na mag-go pa ako sa clinic at sa labas, mas accessible na and free pa,” she stated.
The joint celebration underscores the enduring commitment of USMARDC and PICRI to driving agricultural advancement and community empowerment. As both institutions move forward from these milestone years, they continue to serve as catalysts for innovation, ensuring that the fruits of university research directly benefit the lives of the people they serve.
