The University of Southern Mindanao (USM) welcomed personnel from Visayas State University (VSU) on May 21, 2025, at the Office of the President in the USM Administration Building, Kabacan, Cotabato.

The benchmarking activity aimed to provide VSU with valuable insights into optimizing its radio station, VSU DYDC 104.7 FM, not only as a platform for broadcasting but also as a sustainable income-generating facility.

Dr. Christina A. Gabrillo, station manager of VSU DYDC, initiated the benchmarking activity to examine USM’s strategies for managing its own campus radio station, DXVL, and generating revenue through its operations.

“Kaya talaga pumunta kami dito [sa USM] kasi we would like to know paano kayo naka generate [ng income] kasi sa amin zero, as in zero talaga.” She spoke.

During the visit, Dr. Samsudin S. Panday, Vice President for Resource Generation and Entrepreneurial Services (VPRGES) of USM, along with Prof. Vilma Santos and Prof. Jovelyn Gesulga from the Department of Development Communication, provided insights into DXVL’s establishment and ongoing operations. They highlighted its dual purpose—serving as a training ground for Development Communication students while catering a wider community inside and outside of USM.

The visiting team also conducted an on-site inspection of DXVL’s facilities and a brief tour to the University Information and Communication Technology Office (UICTO) to explore USM’s broader communication infrastructure.

Accompanying Dr. Gabrillo were Engineer Sean Villagonzalo, Radio Engineer, and Kathleen Valencia, Broadcast Program Producer.
