The University of Southern Mindanao (USM) welcomed the monitoring team from the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST)–BARMM on February 16, 2026. The team, led by Chief Science Research Specialist Engr. Jandatu S. Salik, visited the campus to conduct regular monitoring and evaluation of MOST-funded projects.

The activity was carried out by the Research and Development and Innovation Division (RDID), Finance Division, and Supply Section. It aimed to check project progress, verify accomplishments, identify challenges, and provide technical guidance to ensure alignment with approved plans and reporting requirements.

MOST has allocated ₱7,200,601.10 to support four USM researchers working on projects focused on improving agricultural production and preserving Maguindanaon culture through modern approaches.

During a courtesy visit with USM President Dr. Jonald L. Pimentel, Engr. Salik expressed gratitude for USM’s strong partnership in research and innovation. President Pimentel, in turn, acknowledged MOST’s active financial support, which continues to drive the university’s innovation agenda.

“Any areas where we can assist, we are willing to extend help. We belong to different regions, but we share one island. Collaboration is important, and we are grateful for your financial support for our projects here at USM,” said President Pimentel.

Through initiatives like this, USM and MOST reaffirm their shared commitment to uplifting communities in Southern Philippines through science and technology.
