The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) conducted an ocular visit at the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) on April 15, 2026, as part of the evaluation process for the issuance of the Certificate of Program Compliance (COPC) for Academic Year 2026-2027.
The visit covered the university’s proposed programs, namely the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) and the Bachelor of Science in Biology, with majors in Ecology, Animal Biology, and Plant Biology.
During the activity, Prof. Krizzler Tanalgo presented the university’s academic resources, faculty profile, and existing initiatives supporting the BS Biology program. Meanwhile, Prof. Janice T. Palmaera discussed the proposed BSIT program, highlighting its curriculum design and the institution’s readiness to offer the course.
The evaluation was conducted by the Regional Quality Assessment Team (RQAT). For the BS Biology program, the assessment was led by Engr. Jhan Jkem Fontanilla, Education Supervisor II, and Dr. Leizle B. Coronica, also from NDDU.

The ocular visit forms part of CHED’s standard procedure to ensure that higher education institutions meet the required standards in offering academic programs.
USM is currently awaiting the official results of the evaluation, which will determine the issuance of the COPC for the proposed programs.

The University Quality Assurance Office (UQAO), under the direction of Dr. Lawrence Anthony U. Dollente, led the evaluation on the part of the university, ensuring compliance with CHED requirements and the readiness of its proposed programs.
