Dr. Jonald L. Pimentel, USM President openly welcomed USM students affiliated with Green USM Project, a campus-wide movement promoting ecological responsibility, on August 6, 2025, at the Office of the President, USM Administrative Building, Kabacan, Cotabato. The activity served as a chance to formally present the objectives, timeline, and expected outcomes of the said project to the President.

The visit brought fruitful discussions through soliciting President Pimentel’s insights and opinions on how Green USM can further develop and strengthen their initiatives. As a new entity, they also sought the president’s support to help the project advance the goals of Green USM, which focuses on restoring and conserving the university’s native flora and fauna.

“You start with one development, you try and continue to educate your fellow students here in USM… It’s time for you to shine” President Jonald shared his vision to the students.

He looks forward for students to be catalysts of sustainable ecological conservation by promoting initiatives that will last and beneficial to many in the long run. And he reminded them to abide with the guidelines of the University when executing activities through establishing coordination with concerned offices in the campus.

With the participation of the different organizations, offices, departments in USM, and strong support of the administration, Green USM seeks to accomplish its goals of enhancing the university’s role in environmental stewardship and biodiversity conservation.

The Green USM Convergence (G-USM Con), also known as The Green USM, is a flagship initiative spearheaded by the University Student Government (USG) of USM in partnership with various campus organizations. This collaborative effort is dedicated to the restoration, conservation, and protection of the university’s rich biodiversity. Designed as a holistic and strategic program, it seeks to revitalize the local ecosystem and safeguard the diverse flora and fauna within USM.

Guided by the motto “Pahalagahan, Pangalagaan, Protektahan,” the project champions sustainable practices and environmental stewardship at its foundation.
