To reinforce its commitment to internationalization and global academic partnerships, Dr. Jonald Pimentel, the University President and Prof. Bryan Bretaña, Director, Office of International Affairs participated in the 2025 International Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) Conference held at the Green Leaf Hotel, General Santos City on May 21-22, 2025.




Organized by the Commission on Higher Education- International Affairs Service with Holy Child Central Colleges, Inc., and USM being one of the supporting Higher Education Institution, the two-day event was themed, “Transforming Local to Global Academia: Advancing Inclusive Internationalization through Collaborative Online International Learning.”
Bringing together local and international educators, and administrators, the global collaboration advocates to explore how COIL can bridge educational systems across borders.
The conference featured high-level keynote speeches from international academic leaders including Hope Windle (SUNY COIL Center), Prof. Keiko Ikeda (Kansai University, Japan), and Prof. Kelly Moran (University of Hawaii at Hilo, USA), among others. The program also included the launching and signing of the Manual of Cooperation, sessions on strategic COIL planning, and institutional networking activities.
The participation of Dr. Pimentel and Prof. Bretana underlined USM’s strategic goals of integrating global perspectives into its curriculum and enhancing cross-border collaborations for faculty and student development.
