USM Biotechnology Unit Hosts Benchmarking Visit on Banana Tissue Culture

To continue its support for agricultural development especially for the local farmers, the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) and the National Food Authority (NFA) Region XII officials convened for a meeting on May 8, 2025, at the Office of the University President, Administration Building, USM, Kabacan, Cotabato.
The meeting centered on the renewal of land use agreements and the continued utilization of NFA facilities located within the USM premises. NFA Region XII sought to renew these arrangements in light of the agency’s ongoing efforts to enhance food security and farmer support in the region.
USM President Dr. Jonald L. Pimentel expressed his strong support for the continued partnership. “USM will always be open to collaborations that benefit the greater public, especially our farmers,” he emphasized. “We value our shared mission with NFA in promoting agricultural development and food sustainability,” he added.
Meanwhile, Planning and Development Office Director Engr. Renel Alucilja assured the NFA delegation that the university, in coordination with its legal team, will carefully review the existing contract to ensure a mutually beneficial renewal process.
Further, NFA representatives, expressed their gratitude to USM for the longstanding partnership and for the positive reception. They also acknowledged that a significant number of their current employees are proud alumni of USM.
