Prof. Kevin Ray Abesamis and Prof. Jemima Atok, faculty members from the USM PALMA Extension Classes, served as speakers for the Software Application for Linguistic Fieldwork and Analysis held on November 19–21, 2025 at the Departamento ng Filipino at Iba Pang Wika, College of Social Sciences and Humanities, Mindanao State University–Main Campus, Marawi City.

In the opening session, Prof. Abesamis gave a detailed discussion on Morphophonology through Acoustic Phonetics using PRAAT, a software for acoustic analysis and phonological studies. He also introduced Syntax and Lexicography using AntConc. Meanwhile, Prof. Atok demonstrated Transcription and Annotation with ELAN. After the lectures, participants joined a hands-on session where they practiced applying what they had learned.
The workshop aimed to help students improve their skills in using modern software for a more systematic and evidence-based study of language. Students from Fil 161, Fil 162, Fil 169, and Fil 170, along with graduate students seeking to enhance their linguistic skills, actively participated. A highlight of the activity was learning how these software tools can make linguistic fieldwork more accurate, scientific, and efficient.
