Dr. Anita C. Sornito of the University of Southern Mindanao’s Library and Information Science program has been named one of only four recipients of the Eulogio B. Rodriguez Professional Award 2025, a national recognition given by the Philippine Librarians Association Inc. (PLAI). The awarding was held on November 25, 2025, during the PLAI National Congress at the SMX Convention Center, Bacolod City.

The award, last given in 2017, recognizes librarians who have shown exceptional professionalism or made significant contributions to Philippine librarianship. This year’s selection included both national and international nominees, including Filipino librarians working overseas.

Dr. Sornito shared that she was selected from 15 nominations submitted nationwide. “Apat po kaming napili mula sa buong Pilipinas. Very competitive po ang screening dahil national and international librarians ang kasama,” she said. She added that the evaluation focused on the impact and relevance of each nominee’s work to the profession.

Her recognition adds to USM’s reputation and shows the steady contributions of its faculty to the profession.
