University of Southern Mindanao (USM) President Dr. Jonald L. Pimentel and College of Agriculture Dean Dr. Efren Magulama joined corn industry leaders, farmers, and agriculture officials from across Mindanao during the 18th Philippine National Corn Congress – Mindanao Cluster held on October 13–16, 2025 at The Farm, Carpenter Hill, Koronadal City.
The congress gathered participants from both the government and private sectors to discuss the situation of the corn industry, market prospects, and the use of modern technologies in farming.
Experts from the Department of Agriculture (DA) and companies such as San Miguel Corporation, Vitarich Corporation, Biotech Farms, and Univet Nutrition and Animal Healthcare Company shared information on marketing opportunities for corn, cassava, and sorghum production.

Engr. Maria Christine C. Inting, Deputy Director of the National Corn Program
Dr. John B. Pascual, DVM, Regional Executive Director of DA Region XII.
They emphasized the importance of supporting farmers through accessible programs and updated farming practices. Dr. Pimentel and Dr. Magulama took part in the discussions as part of USM’s continuing work with local and regional partners in agriculture.
With the theme “Magkauban sa Paglambo sa Moderno ug Mauswagong Maisan,” the gathering became an avenue for exchanging ideas aimed at improving corn productivity and ensuring better income for farmers in Mindanao.
