Miles Angelo P. Sodejana, a 4th-year BS Applied Physics student from the University of Southern Mindanao (USM), earned the Best Oral Presenter Award at the International Conference on Particles and Radiation held on October 23–25, 2025, at the University of San Agustin, Iloilo City.
His research paper, titled “Circular Motion of Magnetized Particles around Uniformly Magnetized Schwarzschild Black Holes,” was advised and co-authored by Dr. Jelly Grace Nonesa.
Sodejana presented his paper alongside foreign researchers, postdoctoral fellows, professors, and graduate students from renowned institutions such as UP, UST, MSU-IIT, and universities in Italy, Germany, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan, and France. When the Best Oral Presenter Award was declared, a moment of pride for the university resonated when the recognition went to “USM–Philippines.”
Because of his Best Presenter win, Sodejana, together with his teammates and adviser, has been invited to an international astrophysics conference in Thailand next year.
Among the delegation were the following:
Shahannie Akmad – 4BS Chemistry
DC Lou Belle Arimang – Physics Faculty
Winsome Carl Camus – 4BS Chemistry
Norhanie Malidas – 4BS Applied Physics
Meljean Digawan – 4BS Applied Physics
Baihanan Dilanggalen – 4BS Applied Physics
Noron Nasiha Ismael – 4BS Applied Physics
Dr. Jelly Grace Nonesa – Adviser
The Samahang Pisika ng Visayas at Mindanao (SPVM) and the University of San Agustin organized the international conference, which brought together physicists, researchers, and students from across the Philippines and abroad. Participants shared innovations and findings in high-energy physics, radiation physics, particle interactions, and other related disciplines.
