USM participates in the DOST 12's National Science and Technology Week Regional Celebration

The University of Southern Mindanao (USM) participated in the 2022 National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) regional celebration hosted by the Department of Science and Technology Region XII (DOST 12) last October 11-13, 2022 in SM City Trade Hall, General Santos City. Carrying the theme- Agham at Teknolohiya: Kabalikat sa Maunlad at Matatag na Kinabukasan, DOST is reintroduced at the now normal in line with the DOST Secretary’s banner slogan One DOST for You with the department’s directions for 2022-2028 and priorities aligned with socio-economic agenda of PBBM. A series of activities lined up the 3-day celebration, which officially opened with the ceremonial ribbon cutting of the DOST XII Regional Director Engr. Sammy P. Malawan and the Undersecretary for DOST-Regional Operations Engr. Sancho A. Mabborang. The representatives of the different DOST-Assisted MSMEs, Research & Development Institutes (RDIs) from national offices and State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) in the region witnessed the activity.

One of the highlights of the NSTW 2022 regional celebration is the S&T Exhibit, of which USM is among the many participating SUCs that showcased DOST-funded Research, Development and Extension projects/outputs. USM showcased the following (1) Tablea Extension Project of Dr. Ardniel A. Baladjay, (2) USM IPTBM & (3) USM ATBI of Prof. Pia Amabelle Flores, (4) Cacao NICER Program & (5) Banana Diagnostics of Dr. Edward A. Barlaan, (6) Commercialization of Chevon Food Products and Standardization of Processing Center of Prof. Jalaloden B. Marohom, and (7) SOXAARRDEC research and projects led by Dr. Josephine R. Migalbin. The USM delegation was led by Ms. Janice M. Bangoy of the USM Extension Services Office, together with the respective Project representatives.

The 3-day event successfully concluded with more than 4,000 participants and visitors from private and public sectors, including RDIs from national offices, SUCs, LGUs, MSMEs and students from the region.
