The research papers and posters of the University of Southern Mindanao, under the research and development categories, bag awards during the 30th Regional Symposium on Research and Development Highlights held at the University of Southern of Mindanao Agriculture Research and Development Center (USMARDC) Auditorium, USM, Kabacan, Cotabato on December 12, 2023.

The research paper titled: “Screening of Potential Endophytes as Biocontrol Agent Against Major and Emerging Leaf Diseases of Rubber” under Dr. Tamie C. Solpot, Dr. Ma. Teodora N. Cabasan, Prof. Bernadith T. Borja, Melesa M. Prado, and Jomarie Abubakar was awarded Best Research Paper, while the study titled: “Optimization of Irrigation Flow through Conduit Microhydropower to Generate Electricity for Off – Grid Barangay of Kabacan, Cotabato” under Dr. Marilyn P. Calub, Tito Jun T. Tidula, Benhamin I. Mamalo, Jonnah Mae A. Casalan, Janice M. Bangoy, and Dr. Jalaloden Marohom triumphed as best development paper.

Also, the “Endophytic Fungi as Potential Biocon against the Dreadful Pestalotiopsis Leaf Fall Disease of Rubber” under Dr. Tamie C. Solpot, Dr. Ma. Teodora N. Cabasan, Prof. Bernadith T. Borja, and Jomarie V. Abubakar won best research poster. 

Additionally, the “Optimization of Irrigation Flow through Conduit Microhydropower to Generate Electricity for Off-Grid Barangay of Kabacan, Cotabato” under Marilyn P. Calub, Tito Jun T. Tidula, Benhamin I. Mamalo, Jonnah Mae A. Casalan, Janice M. Bangoy, and Dr. Jalaloden Marohom placed second in the development category for posters. 

Meanwhile, the “Fungal Endophytes as Antagonist to Foliar Diseases of Rubber” by Dr. Tamie C. Solpot, Dr. Ma. Teodora N. Cabasan, Prof. Bernadith T. Borja, and Jomarie V. Abubakar placed third in the research category for posters and the “USM LIFER 2 Project: USM & Ligwasan Marsh Innovative Fish -based Products and Establishing Relevant Community Collaboration” by Prof. Pia Amabelle M. Flores, Prof. Rowell Nitafan, Zaibel Rose M. Tamon, John Rey Agustin placed third in the development category. 

The papers and posters were evaluated by Dr. Naomi G. Tangonan, a DOST Lifetime Scientist, Dr. Lily Ann D. Lando, a professional agriculturist and a consultant and Dr. Emmanuel P. Leaño, a Professor VI from Central Mindanao University (CMU).

Guided by its theme: “Innovate, Integrate, Elevate: Transforming Regional AANR through Research and Development Excellence”, the symposium served as the venue to highlight the results of the research initiatives of the different R&D implementing agencies in Region XII.  

Spearheaded by the SOCCSKSARGEN Agriculture Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium (SOXAARRDEC) Director Dr. Josephine R. Migalbin, the event catered a total of 11 papers and 15 posters from bother categories of its Consortium Member Institutions.
