Two innovations from the University of Southern Mindanao are among the Top 10 finalists in the Mindanao leg of the Filipinnovation Awards 2025, a nationwide competition led by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) and the National Innovation Council. The awards spotlight practical, homegrown solutions ready for early-stage commercialization.

Out of 38 entries across Mindanao, only 10 were selected to compete in the Mindanao Sub-National Competition on August 13–14 in General Santos City.

One of USM’s entries is the Halal Chevon Products from USM Foods, led by Dr. Jalaloden B. Marohom and Dr. Ivy Mar Cabornida. These are ready-to-cook, Halal-certified goat meat products designed for households, students, travelers, and busy workers looking for quick and healthier meal options.

The second is SUMOKI Organic Liquid Deodorizer, a product of Galanido Integrated Farm and incubated by the USM Agri-Aqua Technology Business Incubator (USM ATBI). Applied directly in poultry houses, SUMOKI helps reduce harmful ammonia in the air—improving conditions for both animals and workers. It’s made with biodegradable, eco-friendly ingredients to manage odor without harming the environment.

USM submitted a total of seven entries to the competition. After a round of evaluation and additional requirements, two were selected to move forward.

Winners among the top 10 finalists from the Mindanao round will compete for a spot in the National Finals later this year.
