University of Southern Mindanao (USM) President Dr. Jonald L. Pimentel, together with Director for Instruction Dr. Leonard Paleta, took part in the investiture of Dr. Joane V. Serrano, the new Chancellor of the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) on July 30, 2025, at the UPOU International Convention Center in Los Baños, Laguna.
The event brought together academic leaders, government officials, and members of the UP community to witness the formal assumption of the university’s new leadership. Dr. Pimentel and Dr. Paleta’s presence underscored USM’s active engagement in national academic affairs and its continued collaboration with fellow institutions.
The ceremony highlighted UPOU’s direction under its new chancellor, focusing on digital innovation, public service, and accessible education. It also served as a venue for strengthening ties among state universities and colleges, aligning efforts to advance learning systems and policy development in the country’s higher education landscape.
