To support leadership development in higher education, two officials from the University of Southern Mindanao participated in the UP Los Baños Higher Education Leadership Mentoring (HELM) Fellowship Program to enhance their leadership skills on March 31 and ended on May 23, 2025.

Dr. Justfer John D. Aguilar, Dean of the College of Education, Arts, and Sciences, of USM – Kidapawan City Campus (USM-KCC) and Dr. Ian Leo S. Domingo, Campus Head of USM-Mlang, were selected as fellows in the program organized by the UPLB Office for Institutional Development in Higher Education (OIDHE).

The program involves five-day immersion at UPLB where they learned about governance, institutional operations, and academic leadership through hands-on experience in various administrative units.

Meanwhile, their nominations were endorsed by former USM President Francisco Gil N. Garcia, and former Vice President for Academic Affairs Prof. Marcos F. Monderin, and supported by current leaders, including USM President Dr. Jonald L. Pimentel and USM-KCC Chancellor Dr. Ronielyn F. Pinsoy.

The program aims to develop leadership capacity among officials from state universities and colleges nationwide. Dr. Domingo’s participation strengthens USM-Mlang’s campus leadership, while Dr. Aguilar’s involvement aims to improve academic governance at USM-KCC.

The fellowship concluded with presentations where fellows shared their learnings and proposed plans to apply their new knowledge at their respective institutions.
