The Microbiological and Chemical Testing Laboratory of the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) served as a reference point for the Bohol Island State University (BISU)–Calape Campus in a benchmarking activity held on July 28 and 29, 2025.

Before the laboratory visit, the BISU-Calape Directors, Researchers, and Faculty members paid a courtesy call to USM President Dr. Jonald L. Pimentel. The president welcomed the delegation and expressed support for inter-university collaboration in research and innovation.

Meanwhile, Dr. Krizler C. Tanalgo, the chairperson of the Department of Biological Sciences, and Dr. Ma. Ellen N. Tanabe, the Laboratory-in-charge for USM-CSM Microbiological and Chemical Testing Laboratory, welcomed the delegation.

The benchmarking activity was part of BISU-Calape’s preparations for the operationalization of its newly approved Center for Agri-Aqua Resources and Expanded Services (CARES). The team gathered insights on research productivity systems, sustainability strategies, policy alignment, and inter-agency collaboration, with USM’s laboratory practices serving as the main study focus.

The activity shows the  ongoing commitment of USM to knowledge sharing and support for fellow State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) in strengthening research ecosystems across regions.
