USM CED Students Begin Two-Week Educational Tour in Thailand
February 24, 2026
The University of Southern Mindanao (USM) will compete for the first time in an international disc golf tournament as it joins Lipad Pilipinas 2026, the 5th stop of the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) Asia Tour. The event will take place from February 27 to March 1, 2026 at the Jose V. Yap Sports and Recreational Complex in Tarlac City.
This marks USM’s first time to compete in a tournament under PDGA. With this step, the university enters the international disc golf scene and opens new doors for its student-athletes.
The USM team includes three students from the College of Human Kinetics, one alumnus, and two faculty members. The university formed the USM Disc Golf Club earlier this year through a Memorandum of Agreement, which made this opportunity possible. In just a short time, the team moved from organizing the club to preparing for an international event.
Dr. Che Abdulsaik F. Plang, grandson of the USM founder and current DGAP Mindanao Coordinator, helped bring this opportunity to the university. USM President Dr. Jonald Pimentel also supported the team and continues to push for stronger sports programs and wider global connections.
As USM heads to Tarlac, the team carries the pride of the university and the hopes of Mindanao with every throw.
