Officials from the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) attended the 2nd Mindanao Infrastructure Summit held on October 22–23, 2025, at Xavier Sports and Country Club, Cagayan de Oro City.

The USM delegation was composed of Dr. Jonald L. Pimentel, University President, Dr. Samsudin Panday, Vice President for Resource, Generation, and Entrepreneurial Services (VPRGES), Engr. Garry Kieth Escucha, Planning Officer, and Engr. Kathleen Alucilja, a faculty member from the College of Engineering and Information Technology.

Organized by the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA), the two-day summit gathered representatives from government agencies, local government units, and development partners to discuss projects and strategies for improving infrastructure across Mindanao.

According to Engr. Escucha, the event provided the university with clear insights into current infrastructure priorities and digital development plans in the region.

“The summit has given us comprehensive insights and approaches from accelerating quality climate and disaster-resilient infrastructure through strategic and sustainable public-private partnership investments to improving our digital interconnectedness,” he remarked.

“It allowed us to engage with key stakeholders, discuss project needs, and look into new solutions. These efforts will help us address infrastructure challenges that affect the learning environment of our students and create more opportunities for research and community involvement,” he ended.

Discussions during the summit included topics on transport, digital infrastructure, broadband connectivity, and climate-resilient development. Among the speakers were Mindanao Development Authority Secretary Leo Tereso A. Magno, Department of Information and Communications Technology Secretary Henry Nhoel Aguda, and representatives from the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, and Japan International Cooperation Agency.

USM’s attendance aimed to strengthen its awareness and participation in infrastructure initiatives that can support education and development in Mindanao.
