The University of Southern Mindanao (USM) concluded its three-day freshmen orientation on July 22 at the USM Main Campus Auditorium, introducing new students to university policies, academic procedures, campus services, and student programs before the opening of classes for Academic Year 2026–2027.
The orientation began with college-level introductions, followed by departmental sessions where freshmen met their deans, faculty members, and program advisers. On the second day, students attended briefings on academic requirements, grading policies, and university rules.
Various offices also introduced the services they offer, including student welfare, library services, health care, guidance and counseling, and scholarship programs.
The final day featured a general assembly that focused on anti-bullying, student rights, campus safety, and responsible citizenship to help students better understand their roles and responsibilities as members of the university community.
Shiekha Mar B. Lerios, a freshman taking the Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Science, shared how the orientation helped her understand the university’s commitment to its students.
“I have learned and proven that USM is truly great because it does not only care about my academics and well-being, but also upholds my rights and privileges. Learning about anti-bullying and safety measures assured me that I am safe here on campus,” she explained.
Another freshman, Chiara Yvette M. Aguanta, said the activity gave her a better appreciation of the university’s efforts to support its students.
“I saw how school officials work and how they prepare programs for their students. I feel very welcome here. I hope we can fully experience all these as we start our classes, explore the university, and truly feel part of the USM family,” the freshman narrated.
Spearheaded by the Office of Students Affairs (OSA) through Counselling and Career Department(CCD), the three-day activity familiarized freshmen with the university’s academic policies, campus services, and student programs before classes begin on July 27.
