The University of Southern Mindanao (USM), through its College of Engineering and Information Technology (CEIT), recently signed two partnership agreements to give students more training and learning opportunities on March 30, 2026.
USM signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Zuitt Learning Institute Incorporated in the Philippines and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) in Vietnam. The event was held in a hybrid setup, with partner institutions joining online while USM officials and faculty gathered at the Skyroom of the Administration Building in Kabacan, Cotabato.
Dr. Maricel G. Dayaday, CEIT Dean, led the signing. Also present were Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Leorence C. Tandog, Director for International Affairs Prof. Bryan Loyd Bretaña, and CEIT faculty members.
The agreement with Zuitt focuses on an industry-academe program for Academic Year 2025–2026. It aims to give students hands-on training that matches current industry needs. The program will benefit students in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Civil Engineering, and help prepare them for future jobs.
Under the agreement, USM will assign a faculty member to review training materials and give feedback. The university will also share course outlines, help improve the curriculum, and send a professor to join Zuitt-led classes. In addition, USM will provide students with needed resources, coordinate schedules, and submit the final list of participants.
USM will work closely with Zuitt to give students more practical learning experiences and help them become ready for engineering careers.
Meanwhile, the agreement with HUTECH focuses on academic cooperation. Both schools will work together on student and faculty exchanges, joint research, teaching activities, and continuing education. They also plan to organize seminars, conferences, training programs, and other academic activities in the future.
HUTECH representatives who joined online included Dr. Ly Thien Trang, Ms. Nguyen Lan Huong, and other faculty members. From Zuitt, participants included Allister Grant C. Alambra, Tomohisa Kato, and Adtianne Dianne Isabelle Saldua.
Through these partnerships, USM opens more opportunities for its students to gain skills, learn from others, and prepare for careers in engineering and information technology.
