Civil Engineering students of the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) to wit: Jer Kezeah P. Tormis, Keith G. Ternura, Alexa Mae P. Serjas, Carl Jay M. Ostaga, Jovan P. Prudente, won third place in the oral research competition under the Scientific Category during the 15th Annual Research Awards (ARAW) 2025 sponsored by the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) on August 22, 2025. 

Their paper is titled: “A Comparative Review on the Efficiency and Cost-Effectiveness on Carbon Capture Technologies”. 

Also a poster titled “Comparative Analysis of Fire and Water Resistance of Philippine Wood Treated with Shou Sugi Ba,”with presenters: Peter Dominic Montero, Rachelle Bocado, Lesly Barbecho, Lucky Andrew Capital, Jennie Rose De Roma, Jade Axel Enesperos, John Paul Esperagoza, Carl Jay M. Ostaga, Alexa Mae P. Serjas, Keith G. Ternura,  were also finalist for the best poster scientific category. 

Both groups were guided by their adviser Engr. Jay M. Navaluna.

With its theme: “Innovation for Humanity: Celebrating Research that Fosters Technological Progress for the Benefit of Society and Environment,” ARAW was organized by the Office of the Vice President for Research, Extension and Development in collaboration with the College of Engineering of PUP. 

Other categories were innovation and commercialization categories.
