The Bachelor of Science in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (BSABE) program of the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) went through the inspection and monitoring of the Philippine Regulatory Board (PRB) of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering and the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) XII on May 22, 2025, at the Kundo E. Pahm Learning Resource Center (KEPLRC), USM, Kabacan, Cotabato.
Hon. Ariodear C. Rico, the Chairperson of the PRB of ABE, presented the Republic Act 10915 also known as the Philippine Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering Act of 2016. He shared viewpoints on how USM, his alma mater, can strengthen its activities and programs for its students and stakeholders. He emphasized that not only the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) should follow the law, but also the Local Government Units (LGUs) and private sectors. Also, Deanna Jezrah H. Jontihano represented PRC XII and discussed the details of RA 10915.
During the inspection, Engr. Joy Sharon E. Berja-Gamido, the Department Chairperson of ABE in the College of Engineering and Information Technology (CEIT), presented USM Profile including relevant facilities, equipment, and resources utilized by the program. She also introduced the qualifications and credentials of the BSABE faculty members.In addition, Engr. Gamido discussed the program’s compliance status with CHED Memorandum Order No. 94, series of 2017, and outlined its ongoing initiatives in research, development, and extension. She concluded her presentation by showcasing the BSABE program’s performance in the Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering Licensure Examination over the past five years.
Dr. Rico shared his findings and observations, recommending that USM collaborate with other government agencies, particularly to address the BSABE program’s needs for facilities and equipment. In conclusion, the PRB for ABE Chairperson commended USM for its strict adherence to Republic Act 10915.
