Two Bachelor of Physical Education students namely, Edjay Cajucom Canonigo and Nicole Ocoy, of the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) were announced as recipients of the Travel & Research Grant Recipients for the 9th IOHSK International Conference on July 22-24, 2026 in Seoul, South Korea.  The International Organization for Health, Sports, and Kinesiology (IOHSK) announced on November 28, 2025 through its facebook page.

According to the IOSHK post, Canonigo and Ocoy were among three recipients from USM in the Philippines, joined by one recipient from the University of Santo Tomas, as well as other awardees from Romania, Bangladesh, Nepal, and India.Additionally, all recipients are required to attend the conference either in person or virtually and will receive reimbursement for the cash portion of the grant upon arrival. Those attending in person are also required to stay at the international guest house on the Chung-Ang University campus.

In an interview, Canonigo discussed that he looks forward to gain new knowledge from international experts and other student-researchers in the field of health, science, and kinesiology.

I am excited to present my work there to gain valuable insights and engage in meaningful academic discussions…  Whatever I learn there, I plan to bring back to the classroom and share with my classmates and teachers, helping enrich discussions, inspire new research ideas, and encourage more students to get involved in global academic activities,” he explained.

Dr. Ruben L. Tagare, a faculty member of the College of Human Kinetics at USM, recommended the students for the opportunity. In a Facebook post, Dr. Tagare expressed his gratitude for yet another chance given to his students to showcase their potential on an international stage.

This year, we were truly blessed when two of our students were accepted into prestigious international scholarships under the IOHSK. And now, our hearts are overflowing with joy once again as two of our BPEd students have been awarded the IOHSK Travel and Research Grants to participate in the 9th International Conference on July 22–24, 2025, in Seoul, South Korea…. To Dr. Hosung So and the entire International Organization for Health, Sports, and Kinesiology family, words will never be enough to express our gratitude,” his post said.

IOHSK, on their social media post, said that they are deeply thankful to all donors whose generosity has made this opportunity possible for our international members. And that IOHSK is excited to host the recipients at the international conference and looks forward to welcoming them to Seoul, Korea.
