The University of Southern Mindanao (USM) won Best Paper in Student Category and ranked second place in Best Paper Presentation in the same category during the 15th National Convention for Environment, Climate Change, and Disaster Risk and 6th International Research Festival on January 24, 2026, at 456 Le Grande Hotel, Baguio City.

Monrick James Capitle, a USM Alumnus, took home the awards. Along with him in the BatWISE Project, were the USM faculty members namely, Dr. John Aries G. Tabora, Dr. Ma. Teodora N. Cabasan, Prof. Bernard N. Escarza, and their staff Baby Honey K. Claveria. 

The BatWISE Project is a community-based research and extension initiative implemented in response to increasing concerns over declining bat populations, persistent human–bat conflicts, and limited awareness and adoption of local wildlife protection ordinances at the community level.

The SAVE ME Movement is a national advocacy platform in the Philippines that brings together educators, researchers, students, government agencies, and civil society organizations to address pressing environmental, climate change, and disaster risk challenges. Established as a response to the increasing impacts of environmental degradation, climate variability, and natural hazards, the movement promotes interdisciplinary dialogue, evidence-based solutions, and collaborative action toward sustainable development.
