With its vision to provide quality education, the University of Southern Mindanao confirms its 3,209 academic scholars during the 64th Recognition Program at the USM Auditorium today, March 13, 2024.

‘…we are filled with anticipation and pride, and reminded of the incredible journey of growth, learning, and discovery that each of our students has academically accomplished,’ said OIC Vice President for Academic Affairs Marcos Monderin in his welcome address.

Governor Emmylou ‘Lala’ Taliño-Mendoza emphasized the importance of humility and acknowledging the people who helped students become successful. She also highlighted that behind every successful student stands a dedicated support system of faculty members, mentors, parents, and University Administrators who played an instrumental role in their journey. ‘…be proud of your Alma mater. Be thankful to all the teachers because, like you, they are also here for the best.’

As the Guest of Honor and Speaker, Brigadier General Felix Ronnie B. Babac PA, Commander of the 1001st Infantry (Pag-Asa Brigade) 10ID, PA, emphasized that ‘USM has been a beacon of knowledge, nurturing the minds of countless individuals who made significant contributions to society. The culmination and recognition of a successful school year manifest the brand of USM quality and relevant education that suits these honor students to adapt to the daily rigors of life and to hurdle the challenges they may face along their way.’

BGen Babac ended his speech by leaving five things to ponder: Be qualified and love your work, cultivate good relationships and you will be remembered for that and not your grades, exercise effective leadership, show empathy to your subordinates, and be patriotic, love your country, and always pray.
