The Unibersidad at Komunidad (UniK) team of the University of Southern Mindanao (USM), led by Director of Extension Services Office (ESO) Glyn B. Gabano-Magbanua, and the Inter-Cultural Organizations’ Network for Solidarity and Peace (ICON-SP), participated in a traditional Pamaas conducted by Kasunayan community on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at the Kasunayan Caritas Village in San Vicente, Makilala, Cotabato.

The gathering began with Panuvadtuvad, a traditional Tagabawa ceremony that symbolizes the beginning of a sustainable and respectful partnership. Historically, the Kasunayan community prayed to elements of nature such as trees, mountains, rivers. In recent years, however, their beliefs have evolved to include worship of God, offering rituals such as the Pamaas with symbols of purity and gratitude.
Librada Magno, on behalf of the residents, expressed deep appreciation for USM-UniK team’s continued support. According to her, the community, especially its senior members, has gained valuable skills from livelihood trainings and will carry these lessons forward for continued progress.
Looking ahead, the partnership will expand support for community-led livelihood initiatives such as manicure and pedicure services, vulcanizing and food services, massage training, and formulation of aromatic oils, in addition to the already approved activities as outlined in the approved proposal and workplan.
Accompanying Director Magbanua were several College Extension Coordinators (CECs): Professors Vinus P. Java, Agripino N. Agulo Jr., Joan R. Sadoral, Analyn A. Gonzales, and Ellen Joy M. Farala as well as other project leaders, Apple R. Ureta, and Dindo C. Ereje, and Extension Staff Diether M. Barro. Their presence reaffirmed the university’s ongoing commitment to uplifting and empowering the Kasunayan community.
