Flames from the torch parade lit up the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) on September 24 as Pasiklaban 2025 officially opened, with students turning the annual tradition into both a celebration and a platform to air concerns on national issues.
The parade, which moved through some streets in Poblacion, Kabacan and USM campus, drew attention not only for its display of unity but also for the voices of students who spoke about government accountability, the struggles faced in the provinces, and the controversy over “ghost projects.”

USM President Jonald L. Pimentel, represented by Office of Student Affairs Director Dr. Ma. Leida M. Donque, expressed full support for the festivities, stressing the value of events that showcase student talent and foster leadership. She commended the participants and reminded them to enjoy the experience while striving for excellence.
University Student Government President Mary Adeline L. Sagayno also urged students to bring out their best in every contest while strengthening their bonds with the wider university community.
The opening program featured lively Saludo performances that drew cheers from the crowd and set the pace for the weeklong festivities. For the first time, the USM Kidapawan City Campus joined the roster of participants, alongside academic and non-academic groups, religious organizations, and fraternities and sororities.
Pasiklaban 2025 will continue in the coming days with competitions in cultural, academic, and creative fields, expected to bring together thousands of students in a showcase of talent and campus spirit.
