Engr. Willie Jones Saliling, faculty member of University of Southern Mindanao (USM)- College of Engineering and Information Technology (CEIT), presented his Sustainability and Resilience in Local Governance Innovation Laboratory (SUREGOV Innolab) project proposal entitled Meteor Guardians during the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Full Council Meeting, at USM Commercial Building on August 22, 2025.

The Meteor Guardians project is intended to assist local government units in harnessing open source data, tools, and software in order to generate tools, protocols, and policies to reduce hydrometeorological disasters.

Ensuring to achieve the objective of the project, it highlights four intervention tasks: Data Analytics using Weather Apps, Modelling, and Simulation (DAWMingSi), Water, Climate Change, and Land Use Interactions (WaC-Li), Sustainable Land Management Design System (SuLMSy), and Flashflood Forecasting Framework (F4), all of which were discussed in full-detail during the event.

The council meeting was attended by Cotabato Provincial Governor Emmylou “Lala” T. Mendoza and representatives from Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council (PADAC), Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC), and Provincial Development Office (PDC).

The collaborative project of SUREGOV Innolab and DILG- Region 12 underscores a shared commitment to developing sustainable and resilient communities through joint efforts and forward-thinking initiatives.
