The SOCCSKSARGEN Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium (SOXAARRDEC) organized a capability building workshop for researchers in its Consortium Member Institutes (CMI), held on August 22, 2022 at the Commercial Building in the University of Southern Mindanao.

The invited trainers were distinguished researchers from Isabela State University (ISU). They were Dr. Jonathan N. Nayga, the Director of the Cagayan Valley Small Ruminants Center and the Dean of ISU’s College of Agriculture, and Dr. Isagani P. Angeles, Jr., the University Director for Public Affairs and External Linkages, Dean of the Institute of Fisheries, and Director of the Freshwater Fisheries Center. Dr. Nayga delivered a capability building training on technology business incubation for technology generators, and Dr. Angeles trained participants on proposal packaging on eel and tilapia research.

The training is part of the efforts of the University of Southern Mindanao SOXAARRDEC to promote research from the perspective of one region and even one nation. By thinking regionally, through “co-opetition” rather than competition, the CMI researchers are anticipated to implement relevant research that lead to utilization and commercialization. The activity is also expected to facilitate co-incubation between the CMIs and ISU, specifically in the ruminants and fisheries.
