Intellectual Property

The Intellectual Property (IP) Management handle the protection, monitoring, and strategic use of intellectual property, ensuring the rights of inventors are safeguarded and aligned with national standards.

Key Roles:

  • Assist in prior art search, drafting, filing, and prosecution of patents, utility models, trademarks, copyrights, and industrial designs.
  • Maintain a growing IP portfolio representing USM’s research excellence.
  • Raise IP awareness through training, workshops, and university-wide campaigns.

IP Filing Process Flow and Requirements

COPYRIGHT

STEP 1: Prepare the Requirement

  • 4 copies of Duly accomplished BCRR Form 2025-1
  • Copy of Work
  • 4 copies of Deed of Assignment (Signed and Notarized)
  • Government –  Issued ID

STEP 2: Submit the Application

  • Submit the Accomplished Requirement at USM IPTTBD Office / ITSO (R&D Display Center)

STEP 3: Pay the Filing Fee

STEP 4: Evaluation and Approval

  • It will be facilitated by the Bureau of Copyrights and Related Rights of IPOPHL

STEP 5: Revision and Correction (Optional)

  • If the examiner found some error or misspelled from the documents’ submitted.

STEP 6: Receive the Certificate

  • Request Form (information on the inventor(s) and applicant(s))

STEP 3: File the Application

  • Applicant/inventor can assigned the filing process through USM IPTTBD Office and USM-ITSO

STEP 4: Pay the filing fee

STEP 5: Formality Examination

STEP 6: FER (Optional)

  • If there is a substantial feedback from the examiner.

The Technology Transfer is responsible for moving innovations from research to real-world application – bridging university with community needs and market demand.

The Technology Business Incubators (TBIs) arm supports the growth of innovation-driven startups and spinoffs, offering tailored incubation services based on sectoral needs.

USMart Technology Business Incubator (USMart TBI)

SIKLAB Agri-Aqua Technology Business Incubator (SIKLAB ATBI)

The USMart TBI focuses on the incubation and commercialization of technologies in information and communication technology (ICT), industrial systems, and engineering innovations.

The SIKLAB ATBI supports startups and enterprises engaged in agriculture, aquaculture, food processing, and related bioresource technologies.
