USM Student Earns Spot in Sakura Science Exchange Program in Japan

The University of Southern Mindanao (USM) appointed new deans and academic officials to several colleges and offices, with the appointments taking effect on July 1, 2026.

The appointments include the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS), College of Education (CED), College of Science and Mathematics (CSM), the Graduate School, and the Office of the Director for Instruction (ODI)

Dr. Maria Luz Calibayan was appointed Dean of CASS. Before her appointment, she served as the University’s Curriculum Specialist and worked on curriculum planning and academic programs uunder ODI.

Moreover, the College of Education is now headed by Dr. Eimer Estilloso, who previously served as Dean of the Graduate School.

Dr. Philip Lester Benjamin succeeded Dr. Estilloso as Dean of the Graduate School. Before taking on the position, Dr. Benjamin served as Dean of the College of Science and Mathematics.

Meanwhile, Dr. Joy Sharon Gamido was designated Officer-in-Charge Director for Instruction. She previously served as Chairperson of the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering and held various academic and administrative assignments.

Dr. Leonard Paleta was designated Officer-in-Charge Dean of the College of Science and Mathematics. Before his appointment, he served as Director for Instruction.

The appointments follow the reassignment of academic officials to different leadership positions within the University. Classes for the first semester will open with the newly designated officials assuming their respective posts. These officials will now serve as members of the University’s Administrative Council, that discusses and makes decisions on matters concerning the university before these are endorsed to the University Board of Regents for approval.
