To help strengthen records management in higher education institutions, the National Archives of the Philippines (NAP) mobilized support for the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) through a one-day assessment, technical assistance, and on-site review of the university’s records system on July 24, 2025 at the University Board Room, USM, Kabacan, Cotabato.

Mr. Omar Mohktar M. Umag, Archivist II of the NAP Regional Network in Davao City, visited various university offices to evaluate how official records are handled, stored, and preserved. He also met USM President Dr. Jonald L. Pimentel to discuss gaps in documentation and the importance of properly archiving records that should be retained, and the arising importance of digitization as a tool to modernize the university’s record system.

He toured the Records Office and assessed selected administrative units, identifying areas for improvement, and offering recommendations aligned with national archival standards.

This initiative forms part of USM’s broader efforts to modernize its internal systems and ensure full compliance with public records management policies.
