The University of Southern Mindanao (USM) received delegates from Universitas Negeri Malang (UNM), Indonesia, on September 23, 2026, to discuss possible academic collaboration and share university practices at the University Commercial Building, USM, Kabacan, Cotabato.
The discussions covered possible establishment of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), educational tours to UNM, and online lectures involving students and faculty members from both institutions.
The UNM delegation was composed of Associate Professor Dr. Muhammad Alfan, Assistant Professor Dedi Prestiadi, Assistant Professor Mochammad Rizal Ramadhan, and Assistant Professor Fatiya Rosyida.
During the visit, the USM College of Education (CED), Institute of Middle East and Asian Studies (IMEAS), and Graduate School (GS) presented their respective programs and practices through audio-visual presentations.
CED Dean Dr. Eimer M. Estilloso, IMEAS Associate Professor Sofia G. Molao, and Graduate School Associate Dean Dr. Mirasol Verona represented their respective units during the presentations.
UNM also presented a video featuring its university facilities, while Dr. Alfan shared information about the institution’s practices in academic, research, non-academic programs, publications, certificate programs, and partnerships.
USM President Dr. Jonald L. Pimentel, represented by Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Leorence C. Tandog, welcomed the UNM delegation and encouraged participants to learn from each other’s experiences.
“We create knowledge, but we also need to keep learning from others so we can find new ways to use that knowledge,” Dr. Tandog said.
Following the discussion, the UNM delegates toured the USM campus and visited several university facilities.
Faculty members from CED, IMEAS, and GS, along with students, took part in the activity.
The visit was coordinated by the Office of International Affairs, headed by Associate Professor Bryan Lloyd P. Bretaña.
