The College of Medicine of the University of Southern Mindanao held its White Coat and Pinning Ceremony on May 7, 2026, at the University Commercial Building. The ceremony honored medical students who are set to begin their internship, as they took part in the symbolic wearing of the white coat and pinning rites before entering the next phase of their medical training.
In her welcome remarks, College of Medicine Dean Dr. Cecilia Balajadia congratulated the students and reminded them of the responsibility that comes with becoming future physicians.
“You have worked hard for this moment, and today, we celebrate not only your achievements, but also the purpose that comes with wearing the white coat,” Balajadia said.
Guest speaker Dr. Camille B. Toledo, a faculty member from the COM, also shared words of encouragement as the students prepare for the challenges of medical training.
“However you fall, however you fail, always look up,” Toledo said. “Look up to your purpose. Look up to who you are. Look up to the reason you started.”
She reminded the students that setbacks are part of the journey and encouraged them to keep going with faith and determination.
“Your journey is not just about how it began,” she said. “It is about where you begin to follow God’s Word.”
Also present during the ceremony was Dr. Samsudin S. Panday, who attended on behalf of USM President Dr. Jonald L. Pimentel.
