BACONG, TULUNAN — Following a Key-Informant Interview (KII) conducted with the project and component leaders of the SULAT Project (Strengthening Understanding, Literacy, Advocacy, and Tourism for B’laan Youth, Educators, and Community Guides), the Extension Services Office, through the Monitoring and Impact Assessment Unit, administered a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) to evaluate the project’s effectiveness among B’laan junior high school students and teachers.
Held on July 22, 2026, at Bacong National High School, the activity gathered eight high school teachers and six junior high school students who participated in previous training sessions.
An orientation was first conducted to inform participants about the importance of the FGD, spearheaded by Unit Head Prof. Anamarie B. Uyangurin.
“Nandito kami ngayon para malaman kung talagang may natutunan ang bawat isa sa inyo, lalong-lalo na kung ang mga itinuro sa inyo ay magkaroon ng magandang epekto,” said Unit Head Uyangurin.
The orientation was followed by the focus group discussion, which allowed participants to provide honest feedback and suggestions to further improve future implementations of the project’s components.
“Marami po akong natutunan gaya ng pagsusulat po ng news articles, sports article, o feature article. Minsan nagsusulat din po ako sa bahay o sa school kapag wala po kaming ginagawa,” shared one of the student participants.
The FGD also provided a venue for teachers to outline their sustainability plan, ensuring that the initiative does not end with the project’s completion, but rather continues for generations to come.
“Actually, napakarami na naming goal para sa school gaya ng pagsali sa DSPC. Gusto rin naming i-sustain ‘yung knowledge namin sa pamamagitan ng coaching or mentoring ng mga naunang batch at ng mga bago para naman kahit wala na kayo ay maipagpapatuloy po ‘yung nasimulan,” Teacher John Kenny D. Escarlan expressed.
The activity concluded with a Client Satisfaction Survey (CSS), solidifying the overall satisfaction and positive feedback of the participants.
These efforts highlight the Monitoring and Impact Assessment Unit’s commitment to rigorously evaluate extension projects, allowing for data-driven enhancements and long-term community impact.
