The Department of Tourism (DOT) and the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) teamed up to strengthen the agri-tourism of the University.

DOT OIC Regional Director XII Mr. Armin H. Hautea served as the resource person during the seminar and training on tourism management held on August 16, 2019at the University Extension Building, Conference Room.

The event, with the theme “Tourism Industry: An Overview” was coordinated and facilitated by the Research and Development Office (RDO) through the Director’s Office headed by Dr. Edward A. Barlaan.

The program aimed to strengthen the agri-tourism of the University was attended by the faculty, fulltime researchers, and students who were involved in tourism-related sectors. Hence, USM is currently transforming itself as an agri-tourism university. These were the following objectives of the mentioned seminar and training: 1) showcase agricultural products, technologies, and sites in USM to the general public; 2) promote, create interest and instill in the minds of young generations on the importance of agricultural field in the society; 3) develop USM as an avenue of promoting agricultural products and technologies in Region 12; and 4) provide training grounds for students-interns on tourism- and agriculture-related fields.
